Injured By Alli? Weight Loss Supplement Recalled
According to CBS News, GlaxoSmithKline is recalling the weight loss drug Alli after receiving reports of other pills and tablets in the bottles.
The over-the-counter diet drug comes in a blue capsule with the text “60 Orlistat” on it. However, in seven states there have been reports of finding tablets and capsules of various shapes and colors in the bottles.
“We are committed to finding out what happened and to doing everything possible to prevent future issues with Alli,” president of GSK Consumer Healthcare Colin Mackenzie said in a statement, according to CBS News. “We regret any inconvenience caused by this retailer recall.”
The news outlet reported that pharmacies and retailers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are being asked to remove the drug from shelves.
As of last week, GlaxoSmithKline had received information about 20 tampered Alli bottles, but no related reports of serious illnesses, according to CBS News.
I Have Been Injured By a Weight Loss Supplement
Weight-loss supplements may not go through the same trials or testing that other drugs go through. Many have been recalled.
Last year, more than 50 people were injured by the dietary supplement OxyElite Pro, distributed by USPLabs LLC of Dallas and sold nationwide, which eventually led to a recall. For example, in at least two OxyElite cases, people had to receive liver transplants due to their injuries.
