Murder Charges Associated with Fungal Meningitis Outbreak
New England Compounding Center(NECC) owner, Barry Cadden, and supervising pharmacist, Glenn Chin, were arrested yesterday and charged with second-degree murder. Eleven others associated were arrested as well.
Do you remember when there was a fungal meningitis outbreak in 2012? According to ABC News, the outbreak killed 64 people and injured 687 more with illness from the tainted steroid injections.

The second-degree murder charges on Cadden and Chin are for 25 deaths of victims in six different states. The indictment announced today explains that Cadden and Chin were “acting in wanton and willful disregard of the likelihood that the natural tendency of their actions would cause death or great bodily harm.” Associtate Attorney General Stuart Delery explained that during the investigation they found out senior partners directed and condoned unlawful conduct at NECC.
Racketeering, conspiracy and mail fraud are a few of the additional charges on Cadden and Chin, along with 14 other people associated with NECC.
