Potential Actos Bellwether Lawsuit Expected to Go to Trial
According to LawyersandSettlments.com, an Actos bladder cancer lawsuit will move forward in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, which could potentially affect the outcome of thousands of other lawsuits involving the drug.
The case was expected to go to trial last week, and alleges that the plaintiff developed bladder cancer after taking the drug. Actos is a Type 2 diabetes drug that increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin, which could potentially improve blood sugar levels.
As of January 15, court records indicated that there are 2,692 cases pending in Multidistrict Litigation (MDL).
What Are the Risks Associated With Actos?
Although Actos was marketed as safe for years, in August 2011, manufacturer Takeda Pharmaceuticals changed the warning label on the drug to indicate a risk of bladder cancer as a potentially harmful side effect for individuals that have taken the pill for more than one year.
Our attorneys are involved in hundreds of lawsuits and Multidistrict Litigation cases (MDLs) against negligent medical device and drug manufacturers, and can help you if you have developed bladder cancer after taking Actos.
