Weight Loss Supplement OxyElite Pro Recalled

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced last week that the dietary supplement OxyElite Pro, distributed by USPlabs LLC of Dallas and sold nationwide, has been recalled.

The recall comes on the heels of multiple reports of liver damage and a death related to the supplement. According to the Plain Dealer, the FDA notified USPlabs of a link between the supplements and cases of liver disease last month.

“We took this step to ensure that adulterated and harmful products do not reach the American public,” FDA Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Veterinary Medicine Michael R. Taylor said in the news release. “We will continue to work with our state, industry and regulatory partners to prevent such products from reaching the public.”

According to the Plain Dealer, as of October 31, 56 injury cases had been linked to the product nationwide. Among these cases, 22 people were hospitalized, two received liver transplants and one person died. Many of the reported injuries have occurred in Hawaii, where a high of 27 patients have reported injuries.

The recalled products include OxyElite Pro Super Thermo capsules, OxyElite Pro Ultra-Intense Thermo capsules and OxyElite Pro Super Thermo Powder.
