Johnson & Johnson Loses Risperdal Breast Growth Lawsuit

Updating a blog post we brought you recently, according to the Wall Street Journal, last week Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay $2.5 million after it was found that it failed to warn a man that its antipsychotic drug Risperdal could cause breast growth.

According to the Journal, an autistic man who took the drug as a youth in 2002 and later developing size 46 DD breasts, filed the lawsuit. The drug has been linked to gynecomastia, an abnormal development of breasts in males.

The case drew national attention, because it was the first Risperdal lawsuit to go to trial after Johnson & Johnson settled a number of suits.

Additionally, it comes after Johnson & Johnson paid the federal government $2.2 billion two years ago to resolve criminal and civil allegations that it illegally marketed Risperdal to children and the elderly.

The trial generated national attention because former U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler served as an expert witness for the family and testified that the manufacturer knew about the drug risks, according to the Journal.

Seeking Counsel for a Risperdal Claim

Risperdal and breast growth may have affected many American men. According to the Journal, there are about 1,200 Risperdal lawsuits filed in courts around the country.

This verdict is a good sign for victims of Risperdal, but not a good sign for Johnson & Johnson, and could lead to more lawsuit filings and possible settlements.
