Chicago Man Files Stryker Hip Implant Lawsuit; Faces Second Operation or Organ Damage
A man in Chicago who once climbed the stairs of the Willis Tower told NCB News recently that his Stryker hip implant is causing him a health crisis.
Following a bike accident in 2007, Mark Stephan severed his spine and was told that he would never walk again. Stephan suffered through grueling physical therapy and rehabilitation, and was the recipient of a Stryker hip implant in 2011. However, the product started to corrode after Stephan had it installed.
“The reason it makes me angry is because no person has worked as hard as I have, who had been in a compromised situation to bring myself back,” Stephan told NBC News. “There are others out there like me, and Stryker needs to be held accountable.”
Stephan told NBC through his attorney that his metal hip implant is is so corroded that fragments are starting to leak into his bloodstream. He has filed a lawsuit against Stryker, claiming that it failed to test the device before offering it to the public.
Stephan, who just completed a 3,000 mile cross-country bike trip to help the rehabilitation facility that help him, said he now faces the choice of going through another painful surgery or leaving the device in, risking kidney and liver damage.
Stephan’s case sounds like thousands of others, with people facing serious Stryker hip implant side effects. Like Stephan, many people who have received Stryker hip products are facing injuries as the product fail prematurely, corrode or shred into metal fragments, which can lead to metallosis (metal poisoning).
