Daughters File Pradaxa Lawsuit Over Mother’s Death

According to the Pennsylvania Record, the daughters of a woman who allegedly died as a result of using Pradaxa have filed a lawsuit against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals.

The Record reported that Janine V. McHugh and Jennifer D. Merlino filed a lawsuit last month in the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia over the death of their mother, Dolores Reed, who reportedly developed a gastrointestinal hemorrhage in 2012.

The news service said that Reed allegedly died four months after her doctor prescribed her Pradaxa for non-valvular atrial fibrillation. The lawsuit alleges that Reed suffered excessive and uncontrollable bleeding, resulting in her death. It alleges that prior to her use of Pradaxa, the pharmaceutical company did not adequately warn Reed about the risks associated with the medication.

The lawsuit alleges that Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals overstated the efficiency of the drug in its marketing campaigns. Pradaxa has been linked to internal bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, bleeding within the kidneys, digestive track ulcers, brain hemorrhaging and death.
