According to WEWS-TV, Pradaxa (dabigatran) is the most complained about drug in the United States.
The television station reported that more complaints were filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about Pradaxa than any other drug in 2011 and 2012.
According to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), since 2010, Pradaxa has resulted in 1,158 deaths and 12,494 injuries.
Pradaxa is used as a blood thinner to treat atrial fibrillation, a heart condition that significantly increases the risk of stroke.
“We’ve found that this drug had a potential benefit in preventing stroke, but it also had extremely high risk of bleeding as do some other anti-coagulants,” said Tom Moore, a senior scientist at ISMP, according to WEWS.
What Should I Do If I Am Injured By Pradaxa?
There have been studies done indicating that Pradaxa users have a higher risk for fatal health consequences as compared to individuals using other blood thinners.
