Benicar is an angiotensin II receptor blocker approved in 2002 for the treatment of hypertension with other antihypertensive agents.
Benicar is known generically as olmesartan.
Azor and Tribenzor, which are other drugs that contain olmesartan, are also linked to health complications.
Benicar is alleged to cause severe intestinal sprue-like enteropathy, a condition similar to celiac disease. Additionally, some victims have reported chronic diarrhea and/or substantial weight loss.
