If you have been following our blog recently, you may be aware that thousands of lawsuits have been filed against Lipitor manufacturer Pfizer over claims that the drug caused people to develop Type 2 diabetes.
Lipitor is an enormously popular drug used to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in patients. However, there have been numerous complaints filed over the drug with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over complications like diabetes, muscle damage and memory loss.
Aside from multidistrict litigation assigned to a federal court in Charleston, South Carolina involving numerous claims, there are countless lawsuits pending at local levels. In one recent example, a Rhode Island woman filed a lawsuit in a circuit court, accusing Pfizer of contributing to her diabetes diagnosis.
According to the Madison Record, the lawsuit filed on January 23, accuses Pfizer of continuing to “market the medication as safe, even though it knew of the link to the development of Type 2 diabetes.” The woman is reportedly seeking $450,000 in damages.
It should be noted that it was not until 2012 that the FDA ordered Pfizer to make a Lipitor label change, adding a warning concerning glucose risks.
Diabetes is a very serious potential side effect of Lipitor. Keep in mind the costs associated with treatment if Lipitor has harmed you, as you may have to pay this out of pocket if you do not seek out a lawsuit.
Sadly, diabetes greatly reduces the life expectancy of many victims. Because of this, if you have been injured, it may be in your best interest to speak to an attorney about how to best move forward with a claim.
Our firm is committed to helping those who have developed Type 2 diabetes while taking Lipitor.
