Store-Brand Generic Liquid Tylenol Recalled

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a supplier of a store brand Tylenol is recalling 18 batches of its infant suspension liquid because some packages may contain syringes without dose markings, making inaccurate dosing and overdose possible.

News about the recall broke last week, after the Perrigo Company, which makes products for many consumer chains, including Babies R Us, Target (Up & Up), Rite Aid and Walmart (Equate), announced the labeling issues.

“There are no issues or concerns with respect to the safety or efficacy of the product, only the potential that the oral dosing device in a relatively small number of packages could be unmarked,” Perrigo CEO Joseph C. Papa said in a release.

According to the Plain Dealer, the company is recalling infant acetaminophen liquid in 160 mg/5 mL size packages, sold in 2 and 4 ounce bottles with syringes. The recalled syringes should have had a white or yellow plunger with dose markings for 1.25, 2.5, 3.75 and 5 mL (millileters).

An overdose on Tylenol or acetaminophen, the active ingredient in the over-the-counter pain reliever, can lead to issues like liver failure or death.
