Some of the stories we have heard in the news recently about the side effects associated with the birth control Mirena intrauterine device (IUD) have been horrific.
Across the country, there have been reports of the devices becoming dislocated in women or embedded in their uteruses. The devices have caused a variety of injuries, from perforations to unplanned pregnancies.
Recently, a woman in Florida was awarded more than $200,000 after she claimed she suffered uterine pain for three months following the implantation of the device.
According to the Daily Business Review, the woman began experiencing severe pelvic and abdominal pain shortly after the IUD was implanted. Eventually, the device had to be removed. The woman claimed that the device “perforated during the IUD insertion, causing the device to migrate under her liver.”
It should be noted that in 2009, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent Mirena IUD manufacturer Bayer a warning letter about overstating the benefits and understating the side effects of the product.
How Do I File a Mirena IUD Lawsuit?
Earlier this year, it was reported that more than 2 million women have been implanted with Mirena IUDs in the U.S., with more than 4,800 experiencing dislocation events since 2008.
If you begin to feel pain or discomfort, and you think it may be associated with your Mirena IUD, you should speak to your doctor about undergoing an ultrasound, which could determine if the device moved.
If these injuries have occurred to you, our attorneys are experienced in multidistrict litigation surrounding defective medical devices. There are currently hundreds of lawsuits filed nationwide against Bayer over Mirena IUD injuries.
Remember, the damage women have suffered because of perforations from Mirena IUDs may never go away. Call us today, so that we can help you recover compensation for the pain and suffering you have gone through because of this defective product.
