The Boston Globe (9/10, Weisman) reports on its front page about a new lawsuit against Biogen and Elan, the marketers of the MS drug Tysabri, after a woman from Hanover, Massachusetts developed a brain infection as a side effect.
The plaintiff, Kimberley A.
Yout, who was a manager at a bank and enjoyed modeling, says she cannot complete everyday tasks and has had to move back in with her mother as a result of the brain infection.
The lawsuit alleges that the manufacturer did not adequately warn users about the harsh side effects of prolonged use of the drug.
According to the article “the lawsuit is one of at least a half-dozen pending in Massachusetts and federal courts in three other states.”
The FDA approved Tysabri in 2004.
